Chakras Explained
The word "chakra" means wheel and refers to different energy points in your body. They are said to be spinning disks of energy that must stay open and aligned.
There are seven main chakras in your body that run along your spine. These will be the chakras that are referred to when being spoken about. Each of these has a corresponding name, number, colour, specific area of the spine, health focus, and phrase. The phrase associated with each chakra should be used with affirmations that correspond to the meanings.
Root Chakra
Number: 1
Location: Base of the spine, in the tailbone
Colour: Red
Meaning: Energy, comfort, stability, safety
Phrase: "I am"
A blocked root chakra can manifest itself into many physical issues such as arthritis, constipation, and bladder or colon problems. Along with these physical issues, this chakra being blocked can lead to many emotional problems such as feeling insecure about finances or basic needs and well-being.
When the root chakra is open and in alignment, we will feel grounded and secure, both emotionally and physically.
Sacral Chakra
Number: 2
Location: Just below the bellybutton
Colour: Orange
Meaning: Sexuality, pleasure, sociability
Phrase: "I feel"
Problems that arise with this chakra can be seen through problems via the associated organs, such as a UTI, lower back pain, and impotency. This chakra can communicate through emotions by connecting to our feelings of self-worth around pleasure, creativity, and sexuality.
Solar Plexus Chakra
Location: Upper abdomen, in the stomach area
Colour: Yellow
Meaning: Emotional balance and confidence
Phrase: "I do"
Blockages in the third chakra can often physically manifest as issues in relation to digestion, such as ulcers, heartburn, eating disorders, and indigestion. It is the chakra of our personal power. This means if the chakra is blocked, it can emotionally manifest through self-image issues and low confidence.
Heart Chakra
Location: Centre of the chest, just above the heart
Colour: Green
Meaning: Love and compassion
Phrase: I love
Blocks in our heart chakra can manifest in our physical health through heart and lung problems as well as weight issues. Blocks can be seen even more through the actions of people. People with heart chakra blocks usually put others first.
The heart chakra is seen as the bridge between the upper and lower chakras and represents our ability to connect with and love others.
Throat Chakra
Location: The throat
Colour: blue
Meaning: Communication and expression
Phrase: I talk
The throat chakra is linked to our ability to communicate verbally. Having a blocked throat chakra can manifest itself into physical problems including your voice and throat as well as potentially having issues with your teeth, mouth and gums. Blocks within this chakra can also be seen through dominating conversations, gossiping and speaking with no filter.
When in alignment, you will both speak and listen with compassion and feel confident when you speak.
Third Eye Chakra
Location: Between the eyes and eyebrows, on the forehead
Colour: Indigo
Meaning: Intuition, wisdom, and imagination
Phrase: I see
Blockages with this chakra can manifest through headaches or issues with sight and concentration. when this chakra is open and in alignment, it is believed that people will follow their intuition and look at the big picture.
Crown Chakra
Location: Very top of your head
Meaning: Awareness, intelligence, fulfilment
Phrase: I understand
This chakra is linked to every other chakra, so it can affect every part of your body, brain and nervous system. The crown chakra represents our connection to the purpose of life and spirituality.
Those with a blocked crown chakra may seem narrow-minded, sceptical or stubborn.
When the chakra is open and in alignment, it is believed to help keep the other chakras open and in alignment in order to bring the person enlightenment.
